The Sneaker Shack: walking the talk of social impact

The Sneaker Shack's journey is as fascinating as a pair of well-worn, well-travelled sneakers. Founded in 2017 by sneaker enthusiast Lolo Ndlovu, the brand has grown from its humble beginnings in the Maboneng Precinct to 13 stores across South Africa, cleaning over 150,000 pairs of sneakers annually. More than just a shoe-cleaning service, and expanding the business, The Sneaker Shack is on a mission to make a positive impact on South Africa.

A commitment to environmental and social responsibility

Sneakers today are more than just footwear—they're expressions of individuality and purpose. Recognising this, The Sneaker Shack goes beyond providing professional sneaker care; the company is also deeply committed to prolonging the life of preloved footwear. Their mission—refresh, rewear, revive—drives their efforts to extend the life of sneakers and keeps them out of landfills, all while helping Mzansi’s sneaker lovers maintain their cherished footwear. In the sit down with Dave Kitley he also shared some developments happening in the kids' footwear market. With kids growing so rapidly and often wearing a shoe a couple of times before needing to size up there could be a great reuse model where parents could become part of a “club” where they will have access to gently worn shoes.

But their impact doesn’t stop there—the company is also passionate about giving back to the community. To date, the company has powered brands like FOM, Totalsports, Jack Black's Shoes for Good initiative.

Project Run: a journey toward empowerment

The Sneaker Shack’s philanthropic initiative, Project Run, was created to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Many people have pre-loved sneakers just sitting around, unused. Project Run provides a simple way for these sneakers to be donated, putting them on the feet of young South Africans who need them.

However, Project Run isn’t just about doing good; it’s about empowerment. Donated sneakers are cleaned and given to young individuals, especially those about to step into adulthood. These shoes do more than provide comfort—they help nurture potential, inspire confidence, and unlock athletic talents through running and other sports. The Sneaker Shack’s goal is to encourage young South Africans to realise their potential and chase their dreams, one step at a time.

How to get involved

Getting involved with Project Run is easy. Customers and passers-by can drop off their gently used sneakers at any Sneaker Shack store or partner location. Every donation goes toward making a difference, not only by reducing waste but by transforming lives. The Sneaker Shack ensures that each pair finds its way to someone who truly needs it, empowering the next generation to pursue their goals.

With every donation, Project Run keeps the spirit of running and sport alive while making a tangible impact in communities. The program aims to foster talent and create opportunities for young South Africans to succeed in both sport and life.

A cleaner, happier, healthier future

The Sneaker Shack believes that small details can make a big difference. Every sneaker cleaned, every repair made, and every pair donated moves South Africa one step closer to a cleaner, healthier, and you look great too. By joining The Sneaker Shack in their mission, you too can make a difference—one sneaker at a time.

How to Get Ready for Black Friday: E-Commerce Business Owner Edition

After years of interest rate hikes, there is a definite change in the air and things are starting to look up. The Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) recently decided to lower the repo rate by 25 basis points, offering some relief to consumers’ pockets in the months ahead. For South African e-commerce business owners, this could not have come at a better time. With Black Friday and “Dezemba” on the horizon, consumers may feel a bit freer to spend. But with increased website traffic, more transactions, and heightened demand for customer service, a successful Black Friday requires careful planning and preparation. Here’s how to make the most of it this year and end 2024 on a high note.
